Passive hope

Such hope is destructive and useless. You wait for an external source to help you, rescue you and make your life better. You don’t have any influence on their decisions, their actions, and their performance. All you can do is wait and hope things get better.

But things don’t get better. You are wasting your time and getting weaker. You’d better not have such hope and instead find out what you can do to improve your situation. Or otherwise, accept the current situation and adapt.

Proactive hope

You have hope for the future but your hope is based on your confidence in yourself and those with who you trust and have influence. While hoping for the best, you are prepared for the worst and while hoping for the best, you work hard to increase the chance of success.

Such hope gives you the energy to move on, it helps you stay patient, overcome frustration and get back quicker on your feet after each failure.
