Whether you are a company, a freelancer, or an employee who is trying to grow his/her success, you are always faced with the question of how to deal with competitors.
There are two different approaches to compete for better/more clients or customers or for a better job.
- Competing to replace you with your competition
- Competing to serve your clients the way no one can do
With the first approach, you need to continuously worry about your competitors and what they are doing. And you need to keep up with their speed. Your success depends on your level of competency. The weaker they are the better for you. The stronger they are the more you have to struggle.
With the second approach, you are obsessed with your clients/customers. Your main concern is how to improve the quality of your service or products to make them happier. Sometimes your competitors might surprise you by getting way ahead of you with a new innovation you didn’t know about. But often it is you that keep surprising them.
