Leadership is not a title nor is it a position. You don’t have to be formally assigned as a leader to lead. You don’t even have to have followers.
Leadership is a personal quality. You choose to have it and then start practicing it until you master it. When you decide to lead, you act like a leader and over time you build the skills for it. Regardless of where you are and in what position or situation you are. You lead when you are at home and you lead when you are at work. You lead even if you are the youngest member of your family and you lead even if you are at the bottom of the corporate hierarchy.
The difference between a leader and a non-leader is very simple. A leader does what he knows he’s got to do while someone else waits for permission. He doesn’t wait to see if anyone else is doing it but he initiates and more people may follow.
