I see a lot of educated people and especially those who studied abroad that they have a hard time accepting the situation in their own country and they are constantly frustrated by the ignorance of others around them.

They expect more law abiding drivers, cleaner houses, more hygienic restaurants, more professional customer service agents etc. While having high expectations is a good thing and it’s the start point for improvement in a society, managing one’s expectations is more important. When we constantly get frustrated at the low quality around us, we lose our ability to advocate for positive change and we soon turn into someone who is constantly nagging, who appears as an arrogant person who thinks everything is wrong with everyone but himself. Such a situation not only doesn’t help but rather increases resistance for change.

Instead, we can decide to accept the current situation as our current reality that has been built over years, embrace the good things about it and find ways to see how we can influence change for better.
