The world we live in is as it is. It is neither positive nor negative all by its own. It just is. We give meaning to it based on our interest and preferences. For example, when it’s raining, it’s just raining. There is nothing good or bad about it until this event gets interpreted by a human being. A farmer would welcome it and would enjoy it while the raining provides water for its farm.
But the guy who has planned for a couple of weeks to go outside the city with his family for a picnic might interpret it as a bad day and blame the raining for ruining his day.
So what seems positive to us is personal and based on the definition of what’s good for us. In the other hand, whatever that doesn’t appear to be in our favor we connote a negative meaning to it.
So, so far, it is normal as it is so with all human being. We have a positive or negative opinion about the different events in our environment.
By practice, we can become more positive or more negative. Being more positive means that we get into the habit of seeing more advantage in what we experience around us. We are more optimistic about what is and what is happening. By building this habit, we tend to enjoy our lives more, be more proactive and take more initiatives to improve our situations, be more creative and tend to take more small risks. Over time when we see the fruits of being just a bit more positive, we are encouraged to grow the positive thinking that therefore keeps improving our behaviors on a gradual basis.
Therefore, becoming a positive thinker doesn’t have to happen all of a sudden. It starts with the recognition of its value and its importance to our lives and then gradually and consistently we become better and better at it.
We’ve got to live this journey of life. Why not just better?
